Mark Manders is a Dutch artist working with a variety of found objects and adding plastic clay additions that create surreal compositions with familiar items. His work stretches across the spectrum of mediums utilizing installations, drawings, sculptures and short films. He has a background as a writer and has brought the abstract into reality, composing figures bookended or using writing as a theme of building.
Mark has implied these are a form of self portraits, though the figures remain ambiguous and he surrounds them with the random things, such as tables, chairs, light bulbs, blankets and dead animals. This allows the viewer to construct their own story and interject meaning on what is a narrative device employed through visual cues instead of words. In this manner he maintains the structure of story telling while showing the connection between people and objects and how they shape and develop life over time.
