Pippin Drysdale was born May 18th, 1943 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She is a ceramic artist that throws with porcelain. She gets her inspirations by looking at different landscapes. She has traveled around looking and creating art with the inspirations from many different places. Drysdale did a study and work tour in Perugia Italy, Anderson Ranch Colorado USA and San Diego USA from 1979-81. In 1982 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University, Western Australia. From then on she continued to study and expand her abilities with clay. In 2011 she was awarded the Artsource Lifetime Achievement Award by the WA Art Gallery.
Drysdale’s artwork is beautiful. Her use of line, texture, and color expresses what she sees in the places she visits. The way she uses the different glazes to get the desired effect is something that I would like to take into my own work. Her repetition in patterns, color, and texture causes the eye to flow from one piece to the next. It also humanizes the different pieces. Even though there is a repetition throughout the pieces there is still a variety of different aspect in each piece that makes each one different.
